English Bitter

Maybe we'll call this our "Too Long" ale in honor of how much time has elapsed since the last batch of Sticky Stove was brewed....


This extract recipe is slightly modified from "Palace Bitter" in Papazian's "Joy of Homebrewing," and it's for a 6gal batch:


Mash (30-35min @ 150-158F):

14.4oz Crystal 60

Boil (60min):

5.4 lbs Munton's Light DME

0.35oz UK Fuggles Hop Pellets

0.7oz UK Fuggle Whole Leaf Hops

0.5oz Kent Goldings Whole Leaf Hops

Flavor hops (added at T=30min):

0.3oz UK Fuggle Whole Leaf Hops

0.3oz Kent Goldings Whole Leaf Hops

More Flavor hops (added at T=45min)

0.6oz Kent Goldings Whole Leaf Hops

Aroma Hops (added at T=60min for 2min)

0.6oz Kent Goldings Whole Leaf Hops

Yeast: Wyeast "Activator" London Ale III (1318)

OG: 1.047

FG (after 8 days upon transfer to 2nd-ary): 1.014

Too Pale Ale

Too pale ale, in honor of our skin tone this time of year.

Brewing starts as soon as the stove gets our mash water up to 165F...

This recipe is all ours, for a 6gal batch:

Mash (30min @ 158F):
8.5 oz Cara Belges
12.5 oz Crystal 40

Boil (60min):
6 lbs Munton's light DME
1 lb light wildflower honey
1 oz. Cascade hop pellets

Add 0.4 oz Cascade hops after 15 min and 0.3 oz after 30 min.

Flavor hops (added at T=45min): 0.5 oz Vanguard, 0.5 oz Willamette
Aroma hops (added at T=58min): 0.5 oz Vanguard, 0.5 oz Willamette

Dry hopping (Date TBD): 1.0 oz Willamette hop pellets

Yeast: White Labs Burton Ale (WLP 0023)
OG: 1.058

Porter. Bottled.

It's just been bottled, and it's already delicious. We are very much looking forward to opening a bottle of it in two weeks! We'll have to come up with a name for it in the meantime.
